Engage 15: What About Sin?

Religion is a shame-management system that only increases our captivity as we try to be better for God. The reason God forgave our sin in Christ, is so that we can come to know him without the shame of our failures and by doing so become transformed by his love.

Engage is our unfolding video series designed to equip and encourage people to explore their own relationship with God. We are adding a new video every two weeks on Wednesday. Of course the most important part of this process is not the videos, but the time and focus you’ll give between them to learn the joy of letting God show you how he wants to build a relationship with you. Living loved is not a matter of embracing a different set of principles about God.

Living loved is the fruit of growing in the “knowing” of God, learning to sense his presence in our life and to cultivate an ongoing conversation with him about what’s going on in your life. As that unfolds, or if you have specific questions you’d like to ask, feel free to share using the comment section of this blog.

  1. I have enjoyed the Engage series so much, but some of the things you share are touching me deeply.  I have played it over and over, especially where you say “Until we know Him, we can’t be changed.” and “The more relationship with God we’ll have, the more righteous He’ll make us to be.  The transformation comes from Him, not from us.”

I’ve been trying–(there’s the catch)–to live loved.  I’ve been trying to get what you teach right.  Intellectually, I understand that I can do nothing apart from Him, but down deep inside I haven’t really believed that.  And really, consciously I knew I wasn’t really believing it, because if I did I would relax in this process.  but somehow, (the mystery of God) hearing the way you put it, it’s as if I can sense something unlocking in me.  Not a sudden light bulb thing (though I have had those with God), but this feels more like a slow realization that hasn’t quiet come to into complete view, but I can sense it coming!

So, thank you!!  Also, I thank God for you and what He does through you.  Your ministry has been such a blessing to me!
