The Heart of God for the World

I have recently met a woman who cares for orphans in the Sudan. I published her letter to me a few weeks ago that touched many of you.

She is in the States at the moment and I got an email from her today. I can’t imagine a better follow-up than what I posted about community a few weeks ago. But this is community reaching out to the hurting and marginalized in our culture.
This was just an aside to a longer email:

I will be speaking Friday and Sunday evenings in Connecticut and doing street outreach in the Bronx on Saturday. I can’t be THAT close to New York City without finding a bad area to go love on.

You would think someone here from the Sudan, doing some speaking, might need a Saturday to relax and recharge her spiritual batteries. Perhaps this is how she does that! But this is the kind of heart God builds in us to reach the world the way he wants us to reach the world—not as an obligation but as an infectious, can’t-help-myself, compassion for people.

  1. This are the kind of statements where I have to be careful not to feel bad or guilty, because I am not there yet. I also have to be careful not to do all kind of stuff to get there and also to not think that I would have to get there somehow. I dont know this woman, but it would be interesting to get to know her and to see what her motivations are.
I know that this probably has more to do with my heart than with this woman, but in statements like this I hear often: actually this would be the way everyone should do it.

I hope that the day will come, when I can see what you Wayne see in it.

  3. Michele is amazing.
she sits with the orphans in the Sudan…and God provides.

she speaks at different places but her heart is so very much like Jesus.

and the fact that she has one leg missing is such an inspiration for me. what is MY excuse for not going out and finding someone to love on? it could be easy for her to sit back…but she goes..and goes…and goes…often times alone..her and the kids.

    beautiful woman…lover of God.
