If you constantly find yourself doing things for God, then learn to stop. God does not need you to get his attention or affection, but to simply learn to walk with him.

When you’re convinced enough that God is, you’ll want to learn that surrendering to his desires for you over your own agenda for your own life, is the way to open the door for this relationship to grow and deepen.

This week let’s take a look at how you view God. When you go to him, what image do you have of him in your mind? If it’s anything less than a tender, loving Father, that may be where he wants to start with you.

Engage is my attempt to equip and encourage people to explore their own relationship with God. Many who want to know him default to religious ways of trying to connect, then get discouraged when those attempts don’t work. A video series isn’t the ideal way to help with that — it would be far better to have an older brother or sister nearby who’s enjoying the journey and willing to help others do the same, without loading them down with religious rules and rituals. But for those who don’t know anyone like that, it was on my heart to offer these short encouragements. We affectionately call this the anti-discipleship approach, because so many have the idea that discipleship means teaching people how to build a relationship with God, usually with a heavy dose of doctrine and religious activity. In truth, discipleship isn’t about you building a relationship with Jesus; it’s about Jesus building one with you, and you coming to recognize how he’s doing it. These videos are only a catalyst for your own time with him. As best you can, relax in the process.
